He graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Economics, Administration-Finance Department in 1970. In 1974, he completed his doctorate program at Istanbul University Faculty of Economics and received his Ph.D. title.

In 1978, Dr. Ahmet Kızıl earned the title of Associate Professor, and then he became a full professor in 1988 at Istanbul University, Faculty of Economics, Department of Business, Accounting and Finance. Since 1989, He also continued his career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) along with his academic studies. Later, he earned the title of Sworn-in Certified Public Accountant.

He is a member of Istanbul University Social Facilities Management Board. He also served as Deputy Commissioner of the Purchasing Commission, Member of the Faculty Administrative Board, Vice Dean and Deputy Director, Department Head of Business Administration Department, and Manager of Accounting Research Center at Istanbul University.

Dr. Ahmet Kızıl also gave lectures at Galatasaray University Department of Business Administration and Turkish Naval Forces. In 1999, he left Istanbul University and continued his teaching career as a full professor at Kadir Has University, where he also served as the Head of Tourism Management Department and a member of Executive Board of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.

In 2010, he left his full-time faculty membership and gave seminars at Kadir Has University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Yeditepe University. During his academic career, Dr. Ahmet Kızıl also served as a chairman and panelist for several conferences and symposiums. He has published numerous books and articles on accounting in Turkish and English. He is currently working as a Sworn-in Certified Public Accountant, and also teaching part-time at Yeditepe University and Nişantaşı University.
